Kate Beckinsale has no problem spending Christmas Day with her ex, Michael Sheen — and his girlfriend Sarah Silverman.

In a new interview with the Evening Standard magazine for their Film Award’s issue, out on December 21, the 43-year-old “Love & Friendship” star opens up about her unlikely friendship with Sheen. “It’s so normal for us,” she tells the magazine. “We split up ages ago. We have been not together far longer than we were even together.”

Beckinsale, who shares 17-year-old daughter Lily with Sheen, adds, “But I really love him and like him and we make each other roar with laughter. I really love his girlfriend as well, and we are really lucky that we both get on, and Lily gets on great with her — having as many strong females in your teenage daughter’s life as possible is a good thing.”

Speaking about her daughter’s wish to become an actress, Beckinsale says, “I can see why she wants to do it. I don’t love the downside of it for my baby. But it’s not like she hasn’t seen both of her parents having a real experience of what it’s like. She has seen us ecstatic and miserable — she’s seen that, squared.”

The actress, who currently stars in “Underworld: Blood War”, the fifth instalment in the film series, goes on to say that her new era of roles doesn’t feel like much of a departure from her early career beginnings. “My experience of my career is I do an ‘Underworld’, then three or four independent films that don’t get as much attention.”
