Sure, it sounds a bit Matrix-y, but Keanu Reeves’ new project will be decidedly Wachowski-free.

The 50-year-old has announced he’s co-producing a television series with Independence Day director Roland Emmerich.

The title: New Angeles. The premise: to escape the drudgery of everyday life, a man plugs himself into a virtual world named — yep — New Angeles. After creating a new identity, he soon discovers a mystery that may not only derail his cyber life, but his real life as well.

Although Roland is slated to direct the pilot (a pretty big deal, given his blockbuster pedigree), there is not network attachment as of yet. Although something tells us the lads won’t have to bark up many trees to find this project a home.
