Steve Martin got some unexpected heat after posting a tribute to the late Carrie Fisher that some deemed sexist.

Paying respects to the “Star Wars” legend, who died yesterday following a heart attack last week, Martin wrote in a now-deleted tweet: “When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be witty and bright as well.”

A number of fans turned confrontational, immediately calling out the 71-year-old comedian: “I think she apprised to be something higher than just being pretty,” one user wrote. “How do you want to be remembered?”

Another barked: “Seriously Steve Martin quit being such a jerk for thinking Carrie Fisher was beautiful and saying so on the occasion of her death… (though this statement may have been written with sarcasm in mind)

Others jumped to the “Cheaper by the Dozen” star’s defence: “Am I missing something? What is the squawk about? Sounded lovely to me,” one Martin fan stated, while another added: “If you were upset by Steve Martin’s tweet about Carrie Fisher, congratulations! You are officially addicted to outrage. Now, seek help.”

Fellow actor and comedian Ricky Gervais made light of the drama, parodying Martin’s tweet:

Martin’s statements rolled in along with many other celebrities who were mourning the passing of Fisher at only 60-years-old.
