A 2011 appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” highlights the inspiring relationship Debbie Reynolds had with her daughter, Carrie Fisher.

It’s been a tough week for the family of Fisher and Reynolds, who passed away on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. One thing you can never take away from the two movie legends is their spirit and love for one another.

Sitting down with Oprah on her show, the mother-daughter gal-pals described their close-knit dynamic. “The funniest thing is my mother goes on the road and works,” Fisher said. “She gets up and puts her face on and her hair on, and she’s just… alive. At a time in her life when a lot of people are getting ready not to be. My mother is bigger than ever.”

“I follow her example and I respect who she is. And if I’m like her in any way, I’m very very happy,” she added.

Reynolds had plenty of praise with which to shower her daughter, highlighting her strength and courage. “I admire her strength and survival. I admire that she’s alive. She has chosen to make it. It would have been easy to give up and give in, to keep doing drugs. I feel that as a mother, I will protect her. Who will do that when I’m gone?”

Capping it off with a heartwarming sentiment: “I want happiness for my daughter. I want Carrie to be happy.”

The world sadly lost two movie icons this week, as Reynolds died of a  suspected stroke on Wednesday — one day after Fisher died following a heart attack.
