R&B musician The Weeknd is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Allan Slaight Award, to be presented during the Canada’s Walk of Fame Show on Saturday, October 18. The honour recognizes young, inspirational Canadians who’ve achieved international success.
The two-time JUNO Award winner is currently preparing to go on his King of the Fall tour in North America and will be the fifth recipient of the award.
Toronto-born The Weeknd is in good company, since last year’s recipient was Canadian Idol alum Carly Rae Jepsen, Melanie Fiona was 2012’s honouree and the 2011 Allan Slaight winner was none other than Drake.
It is unclear whether Drizzy himself will be on hand when The Weeknd is recognized in October, but he could very well be there to support his fellow Torontonian who was featured on his “Take Care”; album on the hit track “Crew Love”;. The Weeknd also has a songwriting and producer credit on the same Drake album for the tracks “Shot for Me,” “Crew Love,” “Cameras / Good One Goes,” “Practice” and “The Ride”.
And who knows, Pharrell could also be on hand – with his Mountie hat and all – after recently remixing The Weeknd’s song “Wanderlust”;.
