Django Unchained star Daniele Watts had a run-in with Studio City police last Thursday, and by all accounts she’s pretty nonplussed about the incident.
The African American actress says she was handcuffed, aggressively tossed in the back of a police cruiser, and wrongfully detained for several minutes. Why? According to Danielle, it’s because she was kissing her white boyfriend.
She has since taken to Facebook with details:
“I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers … after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place,”; Danielle wrote. “I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away. A few minutes later, I was still talking to my dad when 2 different police officers accosted me and forced me into handcuffs.”;
In a separate Facebook posting, Daniele’s partner, celebrity chef Brian James Lucas, suggested the police officer had resorted to stereotypes and racial profiling. “From the questions that he asked me,”; Brian explained, “I could tell that whoever called on us saw a tatted RAWKer white boy and a hot bootie shorted black girl and thought we were a HO (prostitute) & a TRICK (client).”;
In a statement to People magazine, LAPD spokeswoman Sally Madera has confirmed her department is in the process of investigating the incident.
