While Johnny Depp’s divorce from Amber Heard appeared to have been settled months ago, the courtroom maneuvering continues with Depp’s lawyers coming out swinging after Heard’s attorney reportedly requested that her settlement figure be increased.
That’s the report coming from TMZ, which claims that Depp’s lawyers are scoffing at Heard’s request for more money, and have filed papers to shut down her request to open the settlement, which would have reportedly awarded her $7 million.
However, TMZ reports that Depp’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, is blasting Heard’s request as “a blatant attempt to extend her 15 minutes of fame,” as well as “an embarrassing grab for additional and unwarranted attorney’s fees.”
Less than two weeks ago, Wasser filed court documents on Depp’s behalf, seeking a court order that would compel Heard to pay $100,000 toward his legal fees — and requested that if she doesn’t pay up within 10 days of the court order taking effect, that amount will then be deducted from Depp’s next divorce settlement payment.
According to Wasser’s filing, Depp has already racked up more than $1 million in legal fees relating to the divorce, and she accuses Heard of acting “erratically” and “uncooperatively” throughout the proceedings, which Wasser says has caused Depp’s legal fees to increase significantly.
