“Star Wars” fans launched the petition less than two weeks after the tragic death of beloved actress Carrie Fisher. The Change.org petition asks Disney to change their rules on what defines a Disney Princess: “After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney Princess must be animated,” the petition, addressing Disney CEO Bob Iger, reads.
Adding: “This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.”
The man behind the campaign and father to five daughters, Cody Christensen, told the website GeekExchange that Princess Leia would be a wonderful addition to Disney’s roster of princesses: “We are big fans of the current Princess line-up, but I think that Leia is a really strong, positive, awesome role model for my girls.”
