John Mayer’s secret Los Angeles show this week featured a very special guest performer.

The “Say” singer was performing a set at the Hotel Cafe on Wednesday in support of his upcoming seventh studio album “The Search For Everything”. Instead of rolling solo, however,  Mayer invited a special guest onstage.

Comedian Dave Chappelle joined Mayer for a handful of covers. In one video, captured by an audience member, the two stars performed Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” with a little help from the crowd. The 39-year-old singer commands most of the performance, leaving Chappelle to swig from his beer bottle and orchestrate the audience.

And this isn’t the first time Chappelle has sung a live cover either. In February of last year, the comedian performed his rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep” at Erykah Badu’s birthday party.

Mayer’s new project, “The Search For Everything”, won’t be released in the conventional sense. Instead, selections from the album will be released in bundles over the next few months. The first batch of songs will drop on Jan. 20.
