Fans of “The Good Wife” are anxiously awaiting the debut of “The Good Fight”, with Christine Baranski reprising the role of attorney Diane Lockhart in the spinoff, and now it’s confirmed that Canadians will be able to watch the anticipated new series on W Network.
An intriguing teaser trailer was recently released for the new show, which will air in the U.S. on CBS All Access, CBS’s recently launched streaming service.
“The Good Fight” picks up one year after the events of the final episode of “The Good Wife”, with a massive financial scam destroying the reputation of young lawyer Maia Rindell (Rose Leslie, “Game of Thrones”) while simultaneously wiping out the life savings of her mentor and godmother Diane Lockhart (Baranski).
Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, the now-penniless attorneys join Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at one of Chicago’s top law firms.
Reprising the role of Diane for the spinoff seemed like a no-brainer, explained Baranski during a session for “The Good Fight” at the recent Television Critics Association press tour. “We were in a state of limbo about whether I’d have a future or not,” she said. “I had another offer, real reluctance on my part to let go of what was a great job, a great role and great writers. Happily it all worked out. It was a family we did not want to break up.”
One question that fans undoubtedly have is whether Julianna Margulies will return as a guest star, but series co-creator Robert King says that definitely won’t be happening — at least not in the series’ first year.
“We talked to Julianna about the show and her relationship to it and we kind of agreed that ‘The Good Wife’ ended that story,” King shared. “I don’t think you’d expect that this year.”
“The Good Fight” will premiere Sunday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on W Network and, in a special event broadcast, the debut episode will also be airing at the same time on Global. Following the premiere, the remaining episodes of “The Good Wife” will air exclusively on W Network.
