Nicole Kidman Calls Out Radio Host Over Keith Urban’s Past Alcoholism: ‘God, You Guys Are Personal’

By Shakiel Mahjouri.

Nicole Kidman is an open book, but one radio host poked the bear a little too much.

Kidman, 49, joined BBC Radio’s “Woman’s Hour” host Jenni Murray for a candid conversation that tackled everything from relationships to foster children. The Academy Award-winning actress was open to discussing the relationship she has with her two eldest children, whom she adopted with her ex Tom Cruise.

There was one question, however, which noticeably irked Kidman. Murray asked the Australian actress how she coped with husband Keith Urban’s battle with alcoholism. Kidman balked at the question: “God, you guys are personal,” followed by a sharp breath.

After a pause, Kidman opted to address Murray’s question: “That’s for him to talk about,” she said. “He’s always said that I can talk about it publicly because he’s very much about helping people.”

Adding: “I think our marriage is an example of working our way through it with an outcome where you can be together where he’s sober and very happy.”

The country music star checked into rehab for a third time in 2006, tackling drug and alcohol issues mere months after marrying Kidman. Despite the actress’ reluctance, the radio host insisted on pursuing that line of questioning. “We could do a whole program,” Kidman acknowledged. “There are different ways. I am very much involved in supporting and loving and I know a lot about it.”

Kidman also addressed her desire to have foster children. The “Lion” star adopted two children with ex-husband Tom Cruise — Isabella Jane Cruise, 24, and Connor Anthony Cruise, 22 — and gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 8, and is mother to Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, 6, who was born via surrogate.

“I’m one of the few people in the world who has experienced so many different forms of it,” she explained. “But I haven’t had the child from a donor egg. I haven’t also been a foster mother and I’m very interested in that… But I did foster a child that I met through school, an aboriginal boy,” Kidman revealed.

During the long and candid conversation, the actress also refused to discuss rumours of her strained relationship with eldest children Bella and Connor: “I don’t discuss any of it,” the “Moulin Rogue!” star replied. “I don’t discuss any of my children in terms of their privacy. All I say is that there’s unconditional love. I try to keep things simple.”

Murray told Kidman she couldn’t imagine what it is like adopting a child, but Kidman insists it’s all the same. “I can only speak for myself. Once the bond is formed, the bond is formed. The bond is what they emphasize in terms of any sort of maternal role. It’s why when you give birth, they go: ‘quickly hold your baby, smell your baby.’ As soon as that bond is formed, that’s it. You know that feeling of you would die for that child.”

And despite having a big family to look after, Kidman has her career moving at full speed with three new films slated for 2017 releases.
