‘NCIS: Los Angeles’, ‘Twin Peaks’ Star Miguel Ferrer Has Passed Away At 61

Miguel Ferrer has passed away from cancer at 61-years-old. The “NCIS: Los Angeles” star’s rep confirmed the sad news to ET Canada on Thursday.

The son of Hollywood star Jose Ferrer (“Cyrano de Bergerac”) and famed singer Rosemary Clooney, Ferrer appeared in numerous films and TV series throughout his acting career that began in the 1980s with guest spots on such TV hits as “Magnum, P.I.”, “CHiPs”, “Cagney & Lacey” and others.

Prior to becoming an actor, Ferrer was a successful studio musician who played drums for a diverse array of performers, touring with his mother and Bing Crosby, in addition to recording with The Who’s drummer Keith Moon.

Ferrer’s breakout performance came in the 1987 big-screen sci-fi film “Robocop”, which was followed by a memorable recurring role in 1990’s “Twin Peaks” as FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield, a role Ferrer reprised in Showtime’s upcoming reboot.

The actor went on to notable roles in TV series “Crossing Jordan” and NBC’s short-lived “Bionic Woman” remake.

In 2012, Ferrer joined the cast of “NCIS: Los Angeles” as hard-nosed NCIS assistant director Owen Granger and had been a mainstay on the show ever since.

“Today, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ lost a beloved family member. Miguel was a man of tremendous talent who had a powerful dramatic presence on screen, a wicked sense of humour, and a huge heart,” said “NCIS: Los Angeles” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill in a statement. “Our thoughts go out to his wife Lori, his sons, and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”

Ferrer is survived by his wife Lori, sons Lukas and Rafi, and his brothers and sisters. His cousin George Clooney gave the following statement on his cousin’s passing: “Today history will mark giant changes in our world, and lost to most will be that on the same day Miguel Ferrer lost his battle to throat cancer. But not lost to his family. Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison. We love you Miguel. We always will.”
