Jon Voight Tells Trump Voters ‘God Answered Our Prayers,’ Pre-Inaugural Crowd Sings ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’

At a pre-inaugural concert for Donald Trump, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight took to the podium to welcome fans to the event.

Far from the star-studded inaugural events for President Barack Obama which included U2, Beyonce and Tom Hanks among others, the 78-year-old Voight was one of the few celebrities to make an appearance.

“This is some day,” Voight began his speech, chuckling, before shifting to a more serious tone according to Deadline. “Dear friends and fellow Americans, I’m so honoured to be here to welcome you all to the inauguration of the 45th president of the United States, Donald J. Trump.”

“It’s been a very grueling year and a half for the President-elect,” he said, citing the “barrage of propaganda” Trump faced during his campaign and “not knowing if God could reverse all the negative lies about Trump, whose only desire was to make America great again.”

Voight added his own stately claims to the mix, posturing that Abraham Lincoln would be “smiling, knowing America will be saved by a good and honest man.”

“He certainly didn’t need this job,” Voight continued. “And God answered all of our prayers, because here it is. We will all be part of history.”

The actor then introduced Sam Moore to sing “America The Beautiful”, followed by a performance by U.S. Army Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps in Revolutionary War regalia.

Deadline is reporting the crowd sang The Rolling Stones’ classic “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” – which Trump often played at his rallies throughout his campaign – while awaiting Trump and wife Melania, who then turned the stage over to the band 3 Doors Down.
