Alicia Keys and commentator Van Jones are teaming up with “Now This” for an hour-long program empowering youth on Inauguration Day in the United States on Friday.
Keys and Jones, backed by their respective social justice organizations We Are Here and #LoveArmy, are producing a star-studded program called “We Are Here”. The special aims to rally Millennial America around the core freedoms protected by the First Amendment.
Elected officials like Bernie Sanders and political activists such as Cenk Uygur of “The Young Turks” will be present, as well as more than a dozen celebrities. Names including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Ruffalo, Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae and Chelsea Handler are just a handful of Hollywood greats expected to attend the star-studded event.
“No matter who we are, we have the right to express how we feel and proclaim our allegiance to freedom and democracy. I’m grateful to all the unique and important voices that have come together to tell our collective stories. It’s a necessary rallying cry!” says Alicia Keys in a statement obtained by ET Canada.
Co-host Jones adds: “We are calling for a massive reawakening in this country. Democracy is not a spectator sport. We want all of the millions of good people out there to speak up and act powerfully. We all need to be in the arena.”
The one-hour special will air on the “Now This” YouTube channel at 1 p.m. ET, immediately after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
