“La La Land” dominates the 2017 Oscar nominations landing a whopping 14 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Best Actor for Ryan Gosling and Best Actress for Emma Stone. The movie ties the record for the film with the most Oscar nominations ever, matching 1997’s “Titanic” and 1950’s “All About Eve”.

The Academy Award nominations were announced early Tuesday morning by past winners Brie Larson, Marcia Gay Harden and Gabourey Sidibe, along with former nominees Glenn Close, Guillermo del Toro and Jason Reitman.

“La La Land”-ed nods for Gosling and Stone, as well as for Chazelle, Best Original Screenplay and not one, but two Best Original Song nods for Gosling’s “City Of Stars” ballad and Stone’s “Audition”.

Close behind is director Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight”, receiving eight noms, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The nominations weren’t without surprises though, including a nod for Michael Shannon over his Golden Globe-winning “Nocturnal Animals” co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson. “Arrival” star Amy Adams was left off the list, as “Loving”‘s Ruth Negga was singled-out for a Best Actress nomination for her role in the interracial marriage drama.

Following last year’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy, this year’s nominees reflect a more diverse group of talent, especially when it comes to the Best Supporting Actress category. Viola Davis is up for “Fences”, Naomie Harris for “Moonlight” and Octavia Spencer for “Hidden Figures” – all nominated in the same category – an unprecedented feat.

While Canada missed out on a Best Foreign Language Film nomination, Ryan Gosling isn’t the only Canadian going for gold on Oscars night. Quebec-born director Denis Villeneuve is nominated for Best Director for his sci-fi flick “Arrival” and the NFB animated short Blind Vaysha is also in contention for an Academy Award.

Who will take home Oscars gold? All will be revealed when Jimmy Kimmel hosts the 89th annual Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 26.
