Fans – and Ryan Reynolds – who campaigned for “Deadpool” to get some Oscar recognition were disappointed when that other superhero movie, “Suicide Squad”, landed a nod for Best Makeup And Hairstyling.
That’s right, “Suicide Squad” is now an Oscar-nominated film, despite even its director David Ayer and star Jared Leto vocally slamming the movie for glaring errors and messy backstories.
The critically-panned movie is hardly the first film with an abysmal rating on reviews website Rotten Tomatoes or audience score on the Internet Movie Database to become an Oscar-nominated film.

“Suicide Squad” joins a bevy of highly forgettable films that have earned nominations for their behind-the-scenes work, typically when it comes to costumes, makeup or sound editing. A newly-released video looks back at some of the Academy’s most confusing nominations for films that are widely-regarded as terrible.
Kevin Costner’s hilariously bad ocean epic “Waterworld”, the laugh-free Adam Sandler comedy “Click” and Eddie Murphy’s monstrous “Norbit” are just some of the agreed-upon worst films to ever go for Oscar gold.
Surprise! They all went home empty-handed.
