Since 1921, Transylvania’s most famous Count has been featured in slightly over 400 movies and TV shows. What these films and TV shows rarely touch on is what Dracula was like before he became a blood-sucking menace. This will be corrected in Dracula: Untold, which promises to focus on the eastern European nobleman during his early, pre-vampire years.

“It’s a very different Dracula from the one we have seen so far because it’s the beginning of Dracula’s life,”; Luke Evans tells ET Canada during our exclusive visit to the film’s Ireland set. “We’re so used to the Bram Stoker story, so it felt like a clean slate.”;

The film co-stars Canada’s own Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method, Enemy), who plays Evan’s wife. It marks the first time that Gadon has had a leading role in a film of this scale (the film is rumoured to have a price tag of $100 million).

“Canada should be very proud of that lady cause I love her to death, I think she is awesome, she is an incredible actress, total team player makes every day I come on set a joy,”; Evans said. “I wish every job had a Sarah Gadon on it.”;

While the movie placed huge physical demands on Evans, Gadon seems to have had a much easier time. “Luke is a fierce Dracula,”; Gadon said. “He has so many muscles and he’s got swords and he’s doing push-ups between takes, I’m standing around, doing nothing, no push-ups, nothing.”; Watch below as Gadon has more to say about her hunky co-star.

The push-ups, Evans explained to us, were necessary in order to look more vascular and imposing during the film’s fight scenes, which the 35-year-old Fast & Furious 6 star assured us are plentiful. “I have like five or six fight sequences and they just get bigger and more impressive more creative more dark, they just become epic at the end of the film.”;
