Tom Cavanagh can’t wait for “The Flash” and “Supergirl”‘s crossover musical episode.
“I don’t know that many times people have their favorite show and they’re lining up and saying ‘Okay now doing it in song!’,” he tells ET Canada’s Sangita Patel. “And so what I like about our television show is we’ve been unafraid to push the boundaries.”
The musical crossover will kick off on the March 20 episode of “Supergirl” and continue over the March 21 episode of “The Flash”. The special episode will feature songs penned by “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” star Rachel Bloom and “Dear Evan Hansen” duo Benj Pasek and Justin Pau.
Bloom tells Buzzfeed, “I am so excited to contribute more to the upward trend that is musicals in television and film. Music can be one of the most amazing and efficient forms of storytelling and character development. Also, it was really fun to write a comedy song for two superheroes.”

In the musical episode, our favourite superheroes will face off against the villainous Music Meister, played by “Glee” alum Darren Criss in the musical episode. Cavanagah will have plenty of tips for Criss on how to get that supervillain voice just right.
The Canadian star, who plays Dr. Harrison Wells, better-known as Reverse-Flash on “The Flash”, says he just can’t help stop himself from slipping into superhero mode when he dons his super suit.

“Suddenly if I’m the Reverse-Flash. I talk like this,” he says, changing his voice to a much deeper register. “Because you have to. If you listen to all those people who play superheroes they all talk like this.”
With shows like “Gilmore Girls” and “Will & Grace” getting a second life, should we hold our breath for the return of Cavanagh’s early 2000 series “Ed”?
“I’m fine with the four years we had. For us personally it was a real treasure,” he says of the show, which ended its run in 2004. “We precede from gratitude.”
