Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” took on a more serious tone Wednesday night when the comedian challenged his guest, Ricky Gervais, and his disbelief in God.
Colbert, who also devotes his time to being a Sunday school teacher, took on the agnostic Gervais and questioned the star’s faith in science.

“Why is there something instead of nothing?” Colbert asked before Gervais began denying the entire proposition.
“There are about three thousand gods to choose from…You deny one less god than I do,” he replied.
“Science is constantly proved all the time. If we take any holy book and destroyed it in a thousand years time that wouldn’t come back just as it was,” Gervais continued. “Whereas, if we took every science book and destroyed them all in a thousand years they’d all be back because all the same test would be the same results.”

“That’s really good,” Colbert answered.
