Two key players associated with the classic 1989 comedy Uncle Buck are no longer with us. But this hasn’t stopped their families from speaking out against ABC’s now-in-the-works small screen remake.
Speaking to Deadline, the families for director John Hughes and actor John Candy have expressed strong disapproval over the sitcom.
Two reasons for this. Firstly, they feel slighted ABC and Universal TV made no effort to contact the estates of the two comedy legends. Additionally, they note that Hughes strongly objected to Universal’s original sitcom adaptation of Uncle Buck, which ran for one season in 1990.
The controversy comes days after Cameron Crowe and John Cusack publicly denounced 20th Century Fox’s plan to create a TV series based on Say Anything, another hit film from 1989. The project has since been abandoned.
