The 2017 Juno nominations were announced Tuesday morning with Drake, The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes leading the pack with five nominations each. All three artists are nominated for Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and the Juno Fan Choice Award.

Following closely behind with four nominations is Brampton-born “Scars to Your Beautiful” songstress Alessia Cara. The 20-year-old singer is up for the Juno Fan Choice Award, Single of the Year, Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year. It’s shaping up to be a big year for Cara, who also made her “Tonight Show” debut last Friday night and joined Kristen Stewart on “Saturday Night Live” as the musical guest on Saturday, Feb. 4.
The rising phoenix is in remarkable company, with late legendary Leonard Cohen also snagging four 2017 Juno nods:Â Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Adult Alternative Album of the Year.
The surge of Canadian artists in the mainstream in 2016 means this year’s nominees pool is filled with serious competition. Artists like Celine Dion, Hedley, Justin Bieber, The Tragically Hip, Tory Lanez and The Strumbellas are all up for awards.
And as previously announced, Sarah McLachlan will also be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Junos.
