Could it be? Has Ryan Gosling finally signed on to a blockbuster franchise?

The Canadian actor has reportedly met with Marvel Studios to discuss taking on the lead role in the big screen adaptation of Doctor Strange, THR reports.

Set for a July 2016 release, the Doctor Strange role would most likely lock Gosling in for a multi-film deal, a career move that he has steered clear of thus far. But competition is stiff, as many other actors have been rumoured to take on the role since talks with Joaquin Pheonix fell through. Famous names who have eyed the role include Jared Leto, Justin Theroux, Ethan Hawke and most recently Keanu Reeves.

Continuing with the comic book theme, THR’s sources claim that Gosling has also considered starring in Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad. Directed by David Ayer and set for an August 5, 2016 release date, a-list actors such as Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Tom Hardy have also been tapped to star.

In other high-profile offers, Gosling has allegedly been tapped to portray Houdini in The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero. Summit Entertainment had originally offered the role to Johnny Depp, but a scheduling conflict with the latest instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean has pushed him out of the project.

Up next for the newly-minted father is The Nice Guys, directed by Shane Black and co-starring Russell Crowe.
