Yet another accolade for Drake, with the Toronto-born rapper declared the top-selling musical artist of 2016.
As BBC News reports, the man who brought us “Hotline Bling” racked up a bigger combined total of streams, physical and digital sales and downloads than any other act last year, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which accounts for all music by a particular artist rather than a single song or album.
Surprisingly, the artist who landed in the #2 spot is the late David Bowie, whose death in January 2016 apparently led to a flurry of downloading his extensive music catalogue.

The rest of the top 10 is comprised of Coldplay at third place, Adele at fourth and Justin Bieber at #5, followed by Twenty One Pilots (#6), Beyonce (#7), Rihanna (#8), Prince (#9) and The Weeknd (#10).
Drake’s top spot on the list is largely due to his album “Views”, which made history by becoming the first album to reach 1 billion streams on Apple Music, while the single “One Dance” holds the distinction of being the first song to be streamed 1 billion times on Spotify.
Back in October, Drake broke another record — previously held by Michael Jackson — when he earned 13 nominations for the American Music Awards in a single year, topping the 11 nominations received by the King of Pop back in 1984.
