Ryan Phillippe Slams His Own Acting Career: I’ve Only Made 5 Good Movies

Ryan Phillippe isn’t a fan of Ryan Phillippe.

After just recently sharing an adorable story about how he and ex-wife Reese Witherspoon explained their cult classic, super sexy film Cruel Intentions to their kids, the actor is now saying that most of his movies, he wouldn’t even watch.

“I’ve made 30-plus films over 20 years,”; the 40-year-old actor tells the Los Angeles Times via Skype. “And in my opinion, five of them are good.”;

Further explaining the plight of an actor, Phillippe adds, “So you slave away and you work hard and you want to make something great, and a lot of times you end up disappointed. There are a lot of elements that are beyond your control when you’re an actor for hire.”;

In addition to Cruel Intentions, Phillippe’s critically acclaimed films include the Oscar-winning movie Crash, Gosford Park, Flags of Our Fathers and The Lincoln Lawyer.

But there was that one time he did a movie with 50 Cent called Setup in 2011, a movie Phillippe refers to as “terrible.”; “It was just a situation I didn’t want to be in,”; he tells the Times. “I was sold a bill of goods and it turned out to be something different, which is often the case in this business.”;

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Phillippe’s lowest-rated films include 54(1998), Company Men (2001) and Chaos (2005). His 1994 popular horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer also has a low 36% rating.

His highest rated film is Crimson Tide (1995) with 87%.

“Acting alone doesn’t sustain me the same way it used to. Which I think is completely okay if you’ve done something for 20 years,”; the father-of-three continues. “Trying something else becomes really appealing.”;

Phillippe co-wrote, directed and starred in his upcoming movie Catch Hell. In theaters now, the thriller is about a washed-up Hollywood actor, Reagon Pearce (Phillippe), who is kidnapped by thugs on the way to work in Shreveport, Louisiana.

What’s your favorite Phillipe film?

I Know What You Did Last Summer is getting a reboot and Phillippe’s co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt recently told ET she’d be down for revisiting her role in the horror film.
