Alan Cumming On The Shia LaBeouf ‘Cabaret’ Incident: His Version Of What Happened

Shia LaBeouf has been hitting the talk show circuit to promote his role in the new Brad Pitt flick Fury, but has mainly been explaining his bizarre behaviour during a performance of Cabaret that led to his arrest back in June.

While we’ve heard Shia tell his side of the story, an appearance on last night’s Conan provided Cabaret star Alan Cumming with the opportunity to describe what happened from his perspective.

“He was just wasted,”; recalls Alan of Shia. “He was just wasted from the second he walked in.”;

“There was an atmosphere – when I went down to go onstage and start the show, everyone was freaking out, because there was, you know, someone who seemed to be a crazy person,”; Alan tells Conan O’Brien.

After sensing, as Conan puts it, “there was a LaBeouf quality to the air,”; Alan explains what happened when his Cabaret character walked through the audience. “He whacked me,”; says Alan of Shia’s slapping him on the butt.

Alan, however, takes it all in stride, especially now that he’s heard Shia explaining the reason for the butt-smacking was because, as Alan puts it, “I was the sexiest man he’s ever seen.”;
