Laverne Cox Apologizes For Metallica Grammys Flub: ‘It Was Just An Awful Mistake’

The Grammys had a lot of memorable moments Sunday night. From Adele dedicating her acceptance speech to Beyonce to Lady Gaga’s performance with Metallica, the 59th Annual Grammy Awards were certainly a memorable ceremony.

Unfortunately for “Orange Is The New Black” star Laverne Cox, 32, she forgot to introduce Metallica alongside Lady Gaga before their big performance and now she’s feeling some heat from the band’s fans on Twitter as a result of the mistake.

While introducing Lady Gaga and Metallica onstage on Sunday night before their memorable duet, the actress accidentally forgot to mention the band: “Ladies and gentlemen, all my gender non-binary people watching tonight, eight-time Grammy award winners and six-time Grammy winner, Lady Gaga,” Cox said.

To her credit, she did mention the number of Grammy awards Metallica has won over the years but fans of the group quickly took to Twitter to remind the “Doubt” star of her mistake:


Cox took to Twitter immediately after to apologize for the error, saying how deeply sorry she was to the fans and sharing that she actually used to own some of their albums:

Outside of the flub, Cox had an incredible night because she got to meet her idol, Beyonce. She shared the exciting moment on Instagram with a picture of the two together:
