With even Adele wanting to share the limelight with Beyonce for her Album of the Year win, Solange Knowles appeared to throw shade at the Grammys for her sister’s seeming award snub.
In a post shared on Twitter just moments after Adele beat out Beyonce’s visual album “Lemonade”, the “Cranes in the Sky” singer, who picked up her first-ever Grammy award for best R&B performance, shared a link to Frank Ocean’s Tumblr page, where the singer criticized the show’s producers, Ken Ehrlich and David Wild.
“wuddup frank,” Solange tweeted out in response to Ocean’s post that revealed why he refused to submit his most recent albums for consideration at the Grammys. Ocean went on to slam the show’s producers, claiming that they display “cultural bias and general nerve damage.”

In a pair of tweets (which she has since deleted), Queen Bey’s little sister had more to say about the Grammys, noting that “there have only been two black winners in the last 20 years” for album of the year [but] “there have been over 200 black artists who have performed.”

In response to the Grammys backlash, Recording Academy President Neil Portnow told Pitchfork, “I don’t think there’s a race problem at all. Remember this is a peer-voted award. So when we say the Grammys, it’s not a corporate entity – it’s the 14,000 members of the Academy.”
“We have 84 categories where we recognize all kinds of music, from across all spectrums,” Portnow added. “We don’t, as musicians, in my humble opinion, listen to music based on gender or race or ethnicity.”

Despite Beyonce’s loss for Album of the Year, the expecting mom went home with two awards for Urban Contemporary Album for “Lemonade” and Best Music Video for “Formation”. Meanwhile, Adele, who swept the top three categories for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year, bowed down to Queen Bey, admitting even she was surprised she wasn’t beaten by Beyonce.
“What the f**k does she have to do to win Album of the Year?” an emotional Adele questioned reporters backstage. “The Grammys are very traditional, but I thought this year would be the year that they would kind of go with the tide.”
