Carlos Santana is apologizing to fans after allegedly slamming Beyonce for her Grammys loss to Adele for Album of the Year.
While promoting his upcoming tour dates in Australia and New Zealand, the 69-year-old Mexican-born guitarist spoke with the Australian Associated Press regarding Adele’s 25 Grammy win, which beat out Beyonce’s visual album, Lemonade.
“I think that Adele won because she can sing sing,” Santana said. “With all respect to our sister Beyonce, Beyonce is very beautiful to look at and it’s more like modelling kind of music – music to model a dress – she’s not a singer singer, with all respect to her.”
With the onslaught of backlash from his comment, the singer later issued an apology via Facebook. “My intent was to congratulate Adele on her amazing night at the Grammys,” he said. “My comment about Beyonce was regretfully taken out of context. I have the utmost respect for her as an artist and a person.”
