Jimmy Kimmel Talks Considering Retirement From Late-Night TV After 14 Years

Jimmy Kimmel has become a household name after 14 years of starring on live-night television with his show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

While talking with Variety magazine he revealed his contract with ABC expires in the fall of 2019 and said he has thought about retiring. “I know I will do the show for another three years. It’s possible that will be it.”

With 70 hours a week at the show’s studio and a pregnant wife there is no doubt Kimmel has a packed schedule. “My wife’s pregnant. At a certain point, I’d like to have a little more free time. I have very little time as it is,” he told the magazine.

“I will miss it when I go. Television is changing quickly. I get a lot of offers to do a lot of different things.”

Kimmel, now 49, said that there are a lot of things he’d love to pursue. “If there’s something that excites me creatively, it doesn’t necessarily mean something in show business,” he said. “I like to draw. I like to make sculptures. I’d like to write a book at some point. Doing the show every day doesn’t leave a lot of time for that.”

Kimmel takes on the hosting gig at this year’s Academy Awards, which airs this Sunday, February 26.
