Fans who’ve been anxiously awaiting the upcoming joint tour featuring Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey will have to keep waiting now that the tour has been postponed in order to allow Richie time to recuperate from knee surgery.
As the announcement states, the duo’s “All the Hits” tour was to have kicked off on Mar. 15 in Baltimore, but has now been postponed until summer, with new dates “to be announced soon.” In the meantime, all tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled dates. Toronto and Vancouver are the only Canadian cities on the tour, which were originally scheduled for Mar. 30 and Apr. 27, respectively.
Richie issued a statement explaining the delay. “When you have been performing as long as I have it takes a toll on your body,” says the “Say You Say Me” singer. “Unfortunately my recovery from a knee procedure will not have me 100 per cent ready to start the tour next month. I don’t want to disappoint my fans and I look forward to being back on stage so we can all be ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ together again.”
According to TMZ, Richie had been suffering from a painful pre-existing knee problem and underwent surgery in January. “We’re told there were complications and the injury did not heal correctly so Lionel is still recovering,” reports TMZ.
In a recent interview with Fox2Now in St. Louis, Carey teased fans about what they can expect to see in the now-postponed tour.
“I’m honoured because he’s a legend and has been doing this for a lot longer than I have,” she said. “He’s awesome. I’ll be doing my own show; it is about 60 minutes. I’m going to do some hits and fan favourites. It’s really going to be for the fans.”
