ET Canada has confirmed that actor Bill Paxton passed away on Saturday following complications from surgery. He was 61.

Currently appearing in CBS crime drama “Training Day”, Paxton had a long and varied Hollywood career that encompassed roles in both film and television.

On the big screen, Paxton delivered memorable performances in such films as “Twister”, “Titanic” and “Aliens”, while TV roles included History channel’s award-winning “Hatfields & McCoys” and HBO hit “Big Love”, in which he played the patriarch of a polygamist family in Utah.

“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” Paxton’s family said in a statement.

“A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker,” the statement continues.

“Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable,” the statement concludes. “We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
