The collective sigh you heard this morning is probably in direct relation to the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch is now engaged.
Yes, The Hobbit actor has announced his engagement to girlfriend, 36-year-old Oxford graduate Sophie Hunter, in a traditional announcement in the Forthcoming Marriages section of The Times.It reads: “Mr BT. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London.”;
For those of you who would like to know a little more about this mystery girl, Sophie Hunter is an Oxford graduate, actress and award-winning theatre director. The two met when they starred as Annabel Blyth-Smith and Henry Clark respectively in Susan Luciani’s “Burlesque Fairytales”; in 2009.

Hunter has a number of film and TV credits to her name, has a degree in Modern Languages, studying French and Italian before enrolling at the prestigious Jacques Lecoq School of Theatre in Paris. Just in case that’s not enough for Cumberb**tches, Sophie can sing. En Francais.
Cumberbatch and Hunter were first pictured together in June at a French Open tennis match, and are said to have been dating since the spring. The Mail recently reported that the 38-year-old actor flew to Edinburgh to ask Hunter’s mother’s permission before proposing. Hunter’s mother Anna told the Sunday Mirror last month to “Watch this space. You never know,”; in regards to her daughter’s relationship with the Sherlock star.
A spokesman for Cumberbatch said: “; I am delighted to confirm this morning’s announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are engaged,”; but did not release a statement regarding whether or not a wedding date had been set.
