John Mellencamp sat down with Howard Stern on Wednesday for an extensive interview on the King of All Media’s Sirius XM radio show, and talk eventually turned to the “Pink Houses” rocker’s former relationship with actress Meg Ryan.
“Oh, women hate me,” Mellencamp told Stern during the interview. “I loved Meg Ryan. She hates me to death.”
Not one to let a remark like that pass by, Stern asked Mellencamp why he thinks the “Sleepless in Seattle” star hates him.
“I think it’s because I’m a child. I throw fits, I gripe, I complain. I’m moody. Every bad thing that a fella can be, that’s me,” admitted Mellencamp.

When Stern suggested that Mellencamp get in touch with Ryan to try to patch things up, he admitted that he’d already tried — and it didn’t go well.
“I’ve done that. She just doesn’t want anything to do with me,” he told Stern, adding: “And I can’t blame her.”
However, Mellencamp pointed out that not all his former relationships have ended that badly, and even gets along with his ex-wife, model Elaine Irwin.
“I was married to Elaine for 20 years,” explained Mellencamp. “Elaine and I are still good friends. … Other than Elaine, of all the girls, [Meg] was fantastic.”

The same holds true for his short-lived romance with supermodel Christie Brinkley (they broke up in August 2016 after dating for a year).
“We’re still friends,” Mellencamp revealed. “Her and I still talk.”
