Sure, star-crossed lovers Jamie and Claire are having plenty of sex now, but what’s going to happen when “Outlander” returns with its third season, which will find the characters 20 years older?
“Do you think that older people can’t have sex? Is that your question?” said star Caitriona Balfe (who plays Claire on the hit series) at the 12th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards, reports Vulture.
The third season of “Outlander” will be based on Voyager, the third book in author Diana Gabaldon’s series of novels, in which Claire travels back in time to 1765 and has a long-awaited reunion with Jamie (Sam Heughan), who managed to survive the massacre that took place at the Battle of Culloden. As we’ve come to expect with these two, it isn’t long before they wind up back in the sack.
“I think if anything, when Jamie and Claire get together again, their love is timeless and who they are inside is timeless,” explained Balfe, who was aged via makeup in the latter part of season two to play Claire in her late forties/early fifties.
“It was an interesting challenge to play older,” she added. “That was the fun part about this season: to sort of take that and try to see what 20 years of life does to a person.”
Those extra 20 years, she promises, won’t diminish the hotness of the pair’s onscreen love scenes. “In terms of the sex, I think old people have good sex too, last I heard!”
The third season of “Outlander” will return in September 2017, airing on Showcase.
