Ben Affleck Spills, Matt Damon Will Return To ‘Bourne’ Role

UPDATE: Bromances make men thick as thieves, but sometimes they unintentionally let secrets slip.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck took to the red carpet to celebrate season four of their resurrected passion project, Project Greenlight and during an interview with E! news, Affleck confirmed that Damon will in fact be reprising the role of Jason Bourne.

Joking about whether or not their friendship is any different when one is buffed up for a film, Affleck replied “well, [Damon’s] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness.”;

When asked to clarify, Damon replied “Yes, next year,”; referring to when he would be again stepping into the shoes of Jason Bourne.  “It’ll be 2016 when the movie will actually come out,”; he added, “[Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”;

While Universal is keeping mum on the script’s plot details, the movie is already slated for release on July 16, 2016, stepping ahead of existing plans to develop a spinoff sequel.

The series last bowed out with Bourne regaining his memory in The Bourne Ultimatum, and since then, Damon and Greengrass have been adamant that the CIA assassin would never return to the big screen.

Greengrass collaborated with Damon on The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), while the initial The Bourne Identity (2002) film was directed by Doug Liman.
