“Survivor” host Jeff Probst’s past is back to haunt him.
The reality show star sat down for a one-on-one with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show”. Probst, 55, reflected on how close he came to not getting his big break as host of the ultra-popular reality competition show.
“I had a demo tape,” he said. “Now [if] I’d look back I’d be humiliated, but at the time I was super proud of it. I had done a bunch of commercials, corporate videos, training videos, all these things.”
Probst handed the tape to the show’s executive producer Mark Burnett, who was less than impressed. The current “Survivor” host eventually nabbed the role, but his success had less to do with the quality of his demo reel and more with deceit. “I started lying,” Probst admitted to laughter from the crowd.
Fallon teased how he’d love to see the 1999 demo tape, to which Probst replied “never.” Fortunately for the audience, and much to the dismay of the “Survivor” host, Fallon managed to get his hands on the humiliating footage.
The roughly 30-second video package features an action figure, Probst tripping over a bench and even showing off his disco moves in a shirt that reveals way too much of his chest – among other things.
