Natalie Dormer On Going Bald For ‘Hunger Games’: I Had A Bit Of A Gulp Moment

By ETCanada.com Staff.

Games of Thrones‘ actress Natalie Dormer strikes a strong and sexy pose on the December cover of Flare. The British actress brought her undeniable confidence to the fashion magazine’s photo spread, but her words are what have us flipping for more!

Inside, the newly-minted Hunger Games‘ star put showbiz talk aside for a moment and opens up about her upcoming nuptials to Irish director Anthony Byrne. The couple have been engaged since 2011, but as Dormer tells the mag, she’s in no hurry to tie the knot thanks to the glare of Hollywood’s spotlight. “It’s such a thing, right?” she tells writer Michelle Higgins. “So many little girls dream about their wedding day. But with actresses, sometimes it’s the inverse, because we get to be the centre of attention, looked up and down, dressed up for premieres all the time.”;

“The pull isn’t quite as great,” she adds.

Dormer, who met her prince charming while filming The Tudors in 2007, reveals that she drew inspiration from her man for her Hunger Games audition, where she portrays Capitol resident director, Cressida. “I impersonated him a bit, since he’s a director!” she admits. “He’s good at telling me, ‘That was sh-t, do it again!’ He’s very honest.”

Dormer’s inner strength oozes in every shot of the six-page spread, proving that her rare and determined on-screen characters, Margaery and Cressida, have rubbed off on the star. “The beautiful thing about Margaery is that even though she keeps getting married, she’s not defined by a love interest,” she says of her beloved Games of Thrones character. “And Cressida is defined by her profession and her political beliefs. Since Anne Boleyn, I haven’t played a woman who’s defined by romantic love.”

But when it came to shaving her head to portray Cressida, the actress concedes that the moment took all that she strength she could muster up. “I had a bit of a—[gulp]—moment.”
