Kristen Bell Surprises Her Sister With Basement Makeover

Superstardom can be busy and distracting, but Kristen Bell never forgets her loved ones.

The “Good Place” star has been feuding with husband Dax Shepard on Instagram over decorating decisions in her own home, but Bell knows exactly how to renovate her sister’s basement. Bell’s older sister Sara and her family – which consists of husband Tom and the couple’s four children – were practically “busting out the windows” of their three bedroom home.

The 36-year-old movie star chose to surprise Sara by completely remodelling the family’s underutilized basement with help from online home design resource Houzz. “She’s honestly superwoman… I have been wanting to do something like this for my sister for a very long time,” Bell said in a clip from the website’s video series “My Houzz”. The series is produced by fellow celebrity Ashton Kutcher.

Bell resides in Los Angeles, but her sister’s family lives in Detroit, Michigan. As such, the entertainer relied on help from designer Melissa Kennedy to bring Bell’s vision to life. The remodelled basement includes a convertible games table for her nephews, space for Tom and Sara to relax and watch TV – not to mention a bedroom for her 11-year-old niece, Lucy.

“I specifically chose the basement because it’s a lot of wasted space and for some reason the kids don’t want to go down there,” Bell explained.

The final product blew Sara away, “There isn’t one thing I said I would change,” she said. “Nothing.”
