Britney Spears entered the recording studio with Pitbull to collaborate on a track for the upcoming “Fast and the Furious” sequel, but when the song makes its way into the movie’s soundtrack it will be the voice of Camila Cabello, not Spears, that will be heard.

In an interview with Radio.com, Mr. Worldwide explains why the former Fifth Harmony star was brought in to re-record Spears’ vocals — and revealed how the “Toxic” singer reacted when she found out.

“Funny story behind that,” says Pitbull in the interview. “At first, it was me and Romeo Santos. Britney Spears ended up on the record. ‘Fast and Furious’ ends up loving the record, and they brought on board J Balvin and Camila Cabello. So, it’s been an interesting journey. To watch it go on to become the intro of the movie — the first huge movie franchise to shoot in Cuba — is an amazing honour. It was a pleasure to work with everybody on that record.”

However, Pitbull points out that the Spears version of the tune may wind up getting released as well. “You never know,” he adds. “There might be a remix with Romeo and Britney in the later future. But it was an honour to be able to work with Britney. And the first record I get a chance to work with her on, to hit her back [like that], she’s just a great sport.”

And how did Spears react to being replaced on the track? “She understands. She’s been in the business for X-amount of years,” Pitbull says. “She said, ‘No, no. Don’t even worry about that. We’ll use it for either the remix or we’ll just do another record together. This is where it’s leading us.’ I said, ‘Wow, salute! I appreciate it.'”

“The Fate of the Furious” is slated to hit theatres on Apr. 14, with the soundtrack scheduled to drop the same day.
