Fans are still mourning Alan Thicke following the Canadian TV icon’s passing in December 2016, and Thicke’s son, Carter Thicke joined ET Canada’s Sangita Patel to offer an update on how he and his family are coping with their devastating loss.

As Carter explains, the people his father left behind are trying to stay strong, especially the late star’s wife Tanya.

“She’s doing really, really well. I mean, for the circumstances,” Carter tells Sangita. “The big thing in this situation has really been family. We’ve always been extremely tight and extremely close group. Especially me and Robin. And I think that’s credit to my dad, really.”

Carter also offers an update on half-brother Robin Thicke, revealing he’s “working on music. He’s staying busy… He’s staying focused. Obviously the biggest thing for him is family.”

Carter also discusses the “Blurred Lines” singer’s heated custody dispute with ex-wife Paula Patton, admitting he can’t really “speak to the custody battle but he’s doing really well. The best outcome for them is going to be a nice family resolution.”

Meanwhile, Carter is honouring his dad’s legacy by promoting Alan Thicke’s final performance, in which he plays a man who refuses to pay the ransom for his kidnapped daughter, and Carter admits the “dark, twisted” role is a big departure from the affable sitcom dad in “Growing Pains”.

“He plays a horrible guy for the most part,” says Carter of his dad’s role in the film “It’s Not My Fault and I Don’t Care Anyway.”

“It’s something so far from the actual Alan Thicke, and from any role I think he’s ever played,” says Carter. “Because usually he just plays himself.”
