Rupert Friend dropped by “Live! with Kelly” on Friday, where he chatted with Kelly Ripa and guest host Christian Slater (“Mr. Robot”) about his surprise wedding last year to fiancee Aimee Mullins, with the pair not even revealing they had gotten married until long after they eloped.
In fact, their marriage wasn’t revealed until the couple posted photos from the nuptials on social media a month later, such as this romantic photo that Mullins shared on her Instagram account.

Celebrating one beautiful month of being married to my best Friend! The 1st of May was a gorgeous rainy day with (The Most Reverend!) @eatkinsdiet as our Officiant (The Most Divine) @betonyvernon as our Witness…an elopement in the field got moved into the compost shed. Our kind of magical day.❤️👰🏼👨🏻🔛🍾❤️
“It was four people, two of which were Aimee and myself,” the “Homeland” star said of his small wedding to Mullins, who had both legs amputated as an infant and went on to become a champion sprinter, model and public speaker who’s become a Ted Talks favourite.
“We got married in a compost shed at a beautiful farm in the rain — it was the perfect, perfect wedding — and then we went and played pool in Manhattan,” Friend said, adding that his “oldest friend” was ordained and performed the ceremony.
As Ripa reminded viewers, she and hubby Mark Consuelos also eloped, and encouraged Friend — who will soon be celebrating his first wedding anniversary — to ditch the tradition of giving one’s spouse a gift made of paper for the year-one anniversary and go with something a little more substantial.
“It’s always diamond,” Ripa quipped.
