Now that he has a couple of Oscar nominations under his belt, Jonah Hill has clearly outgrown the “funny fat guy” label of his earlier films, and a recent photo of the slimmed-down actor demonstrates his body is following suit.
Photographed in Los Angeles after finishing a workout, 33-year-old Hill is noticeably slimmer than we’ve seen him since 2013, when he likewise changed his lifestyle and lost weight.
“I think it’s about the work you are doing,” he said back in 2013, reports In Touch. “Getting in better shape is a sign of maturity. I think you are taken more seriously.”
However, Hill’s role in “War Dogs” required him to pack on some serious poundage, and he was significantly heavier during filming in 2015 (below). Following filming, Hill embarked on a quest to lose the weight and get in shape.
As Hill explained during an appearance on “The Tonight Show”, he reached out to his “22 Jump Street” co-star for some fitness advice, which wound up being a bit of a no-brainer.
“I gained weight for this movie ‘War Dogs’, and then I wanted to get in better shape,” Hill told host Jimmy Fallon, “so I called Channing Tatum and said, ‘Hey, if I ate less and go to a trainer, will I get in better shape?’ And he said, ‘Yes, you dumb motherf***er, of course you will, it’s the simplest thing in the entire world.'”
In fact, part of his weight-loss regimen involves keeping a food journal at his doctor’s request, and he recalls how he once accidentally sent the record of what he’d eaten to a fellow celebrity by mistake.
“One night I was at home and I was bored, and I was like, ‘Oh, I didn’t email this guy,’ so I wrote down, yogurt, salad, chicken, whatever. And I sent it to him, and I looked back about an hour later at my sent messages because he didn’t email back, and it must have been D-R, because he’s doctor whatever, and I sent it to Drake,” said Hill.
“So Drake, who I don’t know well at all, I just met him once, he got an email from me that said like, ‘Yogurt, salad, chicken.’ And then just ‘Jonah’ at the end of it. He did not write back. Another guy I have to duck for the rest of my life. On the long list of people I’ll never speak to.” Watch:
