Exciting news for Shawn Mendes fans – the singer-songwriter is about to make his big screen debut!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film, titled “Summer of Love”, is set to be a first for director Ivan Reitman as well, as the Canadian director has never helmed a musical before.
Although the Canadian singer-songwriter previously voiced a character in the 2013 animated film “Underdogs”, this will be his first live-action role.
While the plot remains under wraps, some are speculating that the title could be a reference to the summer of 1967, where 100,000 young people converged in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood to oppose the Vietnam War. It featured musical performances by The Who, Grateful Dead, the Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Byrds.
Described as a road-trip movie, Reitman’s production company paid for the film’s development and Reitman himself wrote the screenplay.
