Sidney Crosby made a new friend when the Pittsburgh Penguins star met five-year-old Memphis Savage before the Penguins played the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
Memphis, reports the Vancouver Sun, has been battling brain tumours since he was 15 months old, and had been declared tumour-free after undergoing surgery. A recent MRI detected two new tumours, which are thankfully not cancerous, but must still be monitored.

Memphis and his dad have watched hockey on TV together since he was a toddler, and his father, Cole Savage, contacted the Penguins in January in hopes of setting up a meeting with Crosby and his son. When the meeting happened, it was more than Savage could have hoped for.
“I can’t stress how good [Crosby’s] heart was, and how nice he was to do this for us,” he told the Vancouver Sun, revealing that Crosby spent about 45 minutes chatting with Memphis.
“I hear you’re a fighter,” Crosby told Memphis. “You just keep fighting, OK?”
“I was almost crying,” said Savage. “He’s a 100 per cent class act. We met a real champion. A heart of gold that guy has.”
