Our heart broke a little when Jenny Slate and Chris Evans split in February. The couple, who had been dating for almost a year, called it quits.

Slate recently opens up to New York Magazine about her relationship with Evans and she does not hold back.

Slate reveals that while the two are not on bad terms, they haven’t spoken that much. “I think it’s probably best. I’d love to be his friend one day, but we threw down pretty hard. No regrets, though,” she admits.

The actress reveals that she initially didn’t think she was his type, but they eventually fell for each other. At first, she thought his affection for her was a prank. “I mean, I understand why I think I’m beautiful, but if you’ve had a certain lifestyle and I’m a very, very different type of person — I don’t want to be an experiment,” she tells the magazine.

She doesn’t mind discussing their relationship or him as a person. “He’s a lovely person. I don’t know. It feels like such a huge thing,” she says. “Last year was a giant, big year for my heart. I’ve never, ever thought to keep anything private because that’s not really what I’m like, and now I’m learning those things, and they’re weird, kind of demented lessons to learn,” she continues.

Their first dinner together was a memorable one, too. “I remember him saying to me, ‘You’re going to be one of my closest friends.’ I was just like, ‘Man, I hope this isn’t a lie, because I’m going to be devastated if this guy isn’t my friend,” the actress recounts.

Evans wanted to split the bill and she thought that, right there and then, he was going to be the guy who would take away her freedom, but he didn’t. “Oh, man, is this dude going to be like, ‘Ugh, this bra-burner.’ Instead, he was like, ‘Tell me more,'” she says.
