Countless sexual assault survivors’ rape kits are destroyed before they can be tested because there is such a backlog. It can vary from state to state in the U.S., in fact, an audit found that New Mexico had the worst in the nation, with 254 untested kits for every 100,000 residents.
The video is a part of a campaign called Rise, a nonprofit organization that improves state and federal protections for sexual assault survivors.
