From “Foolish Games”; to “Who Will Save Your Soul”;, Jewel won over the world nearly two decades ago when she burst onto the music scene. If you can believe it, her debut album Pieces Of You, will celebrate its 20th anniversary in February. Twenty-seven million albums later and, as if you needed another reason to love the folksy country singer, she managed to give Cheryl Hickey plenty during their one-on-one as she spoke honestly about the challenges of balancing her career and motherhood.  Jewel didn’t sugar-coat anything, telling Cheryl bluntly that being a music superstar and a superstar mom just isn’t possible, at least for her. “I don’t personally think you can do it all. Life is a garden and you’ve got to figure out what you want to grow and what your priorities are,”; she mused.

For her, the choice is a no-brainer: family first, mainly her 3-year-old son Kase, whom she now co-parents with Ty Murray following their split in July. After giving birth in 2011, music took a back-seat and now she reveals she will likely never sign with a big-time record label because the schedule is just too intense. “I changed the way I work completely…If I was on a major label I would have to do four months of promo tours… There are other moms that can do it, but for me, it doesn’t work.”;

It may make her spotlight a little dimmer, and her bank account a little smaller , but Jewel says that’s fine by her. “I don’t mind making a little less money or being a little less famous if it lets me have a family.”;

While she’s focusing the majority of her energy on raising her little guy, that doesn’t mean Jewel has stopped making music altogether. Far from it actually. The four-time Grammy nominee revealed she has over 30 new songs recorded and right now the challenge  is narrowing them down for her next album. That’s not all: She’s also working on a book… when she has the time. “I have to make time to do it… I feel so guilty if I’m not spending the time with him (Kase)…but, I’m kind of finding my way into it.”;
