The movie, based on a true story, follows trailblazer Gertrude Bell (Kidman) and her newfound freedom in the Middle East. Kidman, 49, depicts Bell’s departure from turn-of-the-century England to find a better life in Tehran, Iran.

Her journey across the Arab world is marked with danger, a passionate affair with a British officer — played by James Franco — and a meeting with legendary British archeologist T.E. Lawrence, played by Robert Pattison.

“Queen of the Desert” premiered at the 65th International Berlin Film Festival on February 5, 2015 and will have a limited release in theatres and through video on demand April 14, 2017.
