Chris Martin & The Boss Fill In For Bono At U2’s World AIDS Day Gig

By Dan MacRae, .

How does U2 make do with their frontman Bono on injured reserve? Well, getting a few famous friends to lend a hand seems to be a winning way to go.

Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay’s Chris Martin stepped up to the mic to assist the Irish rock giants with their World AIDS Day (RED) gig in Times Square. The newly minted “U2 Minus 1″ played a number of classic songs on a bill that also included Kanye West and Carrie Underwood. (How cool would it have been if Kanye fronted U2?)

The Chris Martin-fronted edition of the band played “Beautiful Day”; and “With Our Without You”;. The Bruce powered version of U2 trotted out “Where the Streets Have No Name”; and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”;. Send us a postcard with your thoughts on who was a better fit. Or better yet, tweet us!
