Just two days after George Michael was finally laid to rest following his death on Christmas Day 2016, Mariah Carey honoured the later singer at her concert in Dubai on Friday night, performing his track “One More Try”.
“I always loved it,” she said of the song, adding: “I always loved him. He was a really great person”
Before beginning to sing what she described as “one of his greatest records,” Carey asked the crowd to shine the lights on their cellphones as a tribute, then took a deep sigh and told the crowd: “We’ll make it through this.”
Carey latest posted video of her performance on Facebook. “We miss you, George Michael” she wrote, describing the performance as “my heartfelt tribute.” Watch:
Carey is far from the only singer to honour Michael, with Adele paying tribute to the late singer at the 2017 Grammy Awards, while Elton John performed “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” (which the two famously sang as a duet back in 1990) at a Vegas show shortly after Michael’s death.
